Well she asked me to dance. I told her my feet don't move that way so she said, "It's in the spirit, not the body." I looked her in those eyes and said, "Well you know, my spirit is dead."
That night found me in the loneliest of towns. A blank sky with all these questions written on the walls. They have no answers. I found myself lost in these alleys of perpetual writings.
When I fell on my last dollar she told me my luck would soon change. I've seen nothing change about a sad song but I have seen an end to this paragraph, an end to this alley. So you can have all your luck back because I've found my way home.

The Corner Diner

That day started like any other. Breakfast in a little, corner diner. I walked home with thoughts of her, but when I opened that front door, all I found was an empty house. Just a note on the bedside table that read:
"Dear Johnny, I'm sorry. There's so much wrong I've done. I hope you can find it to forgive me but if you must point the blame, I'll gladly accept your bulls-eye. I just want you to know that I'll always cherish your love."
It's been 11 months since I read her note. Some say she hitched out of state. She always wanted a fresh start. I can't say I blame her. We never were that good to each other, but my head rested only next to hers. Others say she's one town over, spending her late nights on bar stools. Crying over what can't be undone. Once she asked me would I grow old with her. When I told her yes, well, she knew we both were lying. So every time I think of that corner diner I tell myself, "Dear Johnny, it's curtains for us."
